Mock Trials Advantages and Benefits for Future Trials

A member of the Women’s Bar Association, Judge Megan Goldish has over 20 years of experience in legal practice, with almost eight years as a judge. Currently, she serves at the Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago, where she oversees domestic violence cases. Additionally, Judge Megan Goldish is an adjunct coach to a mock trial team at Niles West High School.

Mock trials are an excellent way for lawyers to practice their argument before a trial. During the mock trial, lawyers and legal assistants can determine which argument best fits a particular situation and which is not. One way mock trials are highly beneficial for lawyers is that they can enable them to see how their story will resonate with the jury and the other lawyers. In this way, lawyers can notice loopholes in their story as well as strengths and build on that when the argument is finally presented to an actual jury.

By organizing a mock trial, a lawyer can also see the other party’s perspective, which means they can identify nearly all possible outcomes and opportunities while the opposition presents their argument.
